The Power of Buzzwords
Buzzwords are a form of mental prompts that empower you to look to yourself for answers and propel you to action in a positive and proactive way. With this month of April, I share a buzzword from my book’s Relationship section. There are times in our relationships, when compromises are necessary for the greater good. Much like the dynamics in a family, our Provinces and Territories may not agree with all plans put forth. Nonetheless, it is important to unite our national interests—our “true patriot love,” with the common goal to build one country…one Canada. May this buzzword help to align our purpose to strengthen the ties that bind us.
This month’s buzzword is:
For the Team
In many families and relationships, people are introduced into this intimate and sacred fold, be it a new husband, wife, child, or best friend. In many cases, like a recipe, this addition changes the original flavour by augmenting and adding new spice and dimension, while at other times, it may diminish the taste and make it bitter. Many learn to adapt, as life has many moving parts, and change is inevitable, although not always welcome. Others will fight tooth and nail to preserve that original recipe, sometimes at the cost of others and the very thing they are trying to protect! So, when you are struggling to include specific individuals at a family gathering—like your aunt who talks but does not listen, your father-in-law who is moody, or your sister’s best friend who is, let’s say, way too much cayenne pepper, use the buzzword “For the Team” to help you through. This buzzword will redirect your mind to the realization that relationships are not only about us but also about others. So, in the case of your sister’s best friend, take the time to be in the moment, talk, and break bread with her friend because you love your sister, and to honour her, you want to honour someone who is important to her. It is that simple—take one “For the Team” and for the good of the family and relationships.
